Notes

  • [a] According to O'Brien (p. 63n143, citing Tozzi), Noferi's tomb along with several others were destroyed because of humidity threatening the miracle working image of the Virgin on the opposite side of the church facade wall. When Stefano Rosselli described it in the 1650s, he noted that only the chiusino remained, the slab having been removed at some time between della Foresta's compendium written at the start of the century and his own.
  • [b] Given that the tomb inscription noted the year (1384) but neither date, and that we know he lived until at least August 17th, 1414, Noferi was certainly the patron of this family tomb, preparing it not only for himself but for his descendants.
  • [c] There is no reason to think that Noferi was not buried in the tomb he had set up at Santissima Annunziata.
  • [d] Andrea's father had died by April 1417.
  • [e] Antonio's father had died by April 1417.
