Notes

  • [a] The inscription on Michelangelo's tomb in Santa Croce indicates that his remains, initially buried at the Franciscan church of Santi Apostoli in Rome in February 1564, were brought to Florence for burial in his family's tomb in 1570.
  • [b] According to grave-digger records, Ginevra, a servant in the household of Lionardo Buonarroti, was buried in the church of Santa Croce in June 1584, perhaps in the family tomb.
