MVNICIPVM ĪGENIA / PONI CVRAVIT ANNO D • M • D • LXXVI	Francesco Ferrucci of Fiesole, who alone practiced the art of sculpture in porphyry for many years and, because of that exceptional skill, had been honored with the patronage of Cosimo de' Medici and his son Francesco, the Grand Dukes of Tuscany, took care to have this set up for the purpose of awakening the talents of his fellow citizens in the year of the Lord 1576.

[a] As noted in a plaque, the tomb of Francesco Ferrucci was moved from its original location in the church of San Girolamo in Fiesole to that city's cathedral. It is possible, however, that it had been taken down from the wall earlier because Stefano Rosselli only described the tomb cover in the floor and made no mention of the remainder of the monument.
[b] Though a family tree in the Carte Pucci gives Francesco's date of death as April 30, Sandro Bellesi notes his burial in S. Girolamo on May 29.
