Two distinct families used the Ferrucci surname and coat of arms. The so-called Ferrucci antichi, according to the poet Verino, seems to have moved to Florence from Piombino in the thirteenth century. The family traced its lineage to Ferruccio, father of Lottieri who matriculated in the Wool Guild in 1245. The family established a chapel with a tomb in the church of Santa Maria del Carmine in the fourteenth century. Confusing matters is the fact that another family by the name of Ferrucci from Fiesole, primarily painters and sculptors, had the same coat of arms and used the Carmine tomb from the early seventeenth century, around the time the Ferrucci antichi died out in the person of Antonio di Baccino Ferrucci in July 1616. Giovanni Battista di Francesco Ferrucci of the Fiesolan lineage was buried in the Ferrucci antichi tomb at the Carmine on 5 May 1617.
Luigi Passerini wrote a scathing review of a published family tree that conflated the two lineages, likely based on a family tree kept in the Carte Pucci, though Passerini does not mention the manuscript version (592/II, ins. 35). The manuscript suggests that Francesco di Bindo was father to an Alessandro and a Monsignor Bindo as well as Antonio, Leonardo, and Bartolomeo. However, Passerini found documentary evidence showing that Alessandro, head of the Fiesolan Ferrucci, was instead the son of Cambio, while Monsignor Bindo was the son of Bindone di Guidotto Guidotti and not a Ferrucci at all.
