Notes

  • [a] The church of course had a primary altar from its inception in the early 11th century, but the altar as it appeared in the later medieval and Renaissance periods was restored in 1278 per an inscription discovered when it was restored again in 1567.
  • [b] An inventory surviving in two copies was drawn up on March 9th, 1440 according to the Florentine calendar. At that time its furnishings included a large silver chalice and patera that included an inscription naming Bartolomeo Valori.
  • [c] Rector Orlando Fazzi rebuilt the high altar in 1567.
  • [d] In 1622, the church was reoriented, and this altar was torn down to make way for a new entrance in the east wall of the church. A new high altar was built where the entrance had been in the west wall.
