Jacobo Maiori Aplo antiquitus dicatum, Virgini Marie eunde habitum B. Simoni, Carmelitarumque Generali celitus porrigenti, et eidem D. Jacopo Apostolo Restauravit A. D. MDLXXXXIIII Niccolò Benci, son of Giovanni Battista, grandson of Antonio [putting] his property and [that] of his wife Lucrezia Gaetani towards the Carmelite habit with piety for God and the Virgin, restored this shrine, long ago dedicated to the best and greatest God and Saint James Major Apostle, for the Virgin Mary extending from heaven the very same habit of the Blessed Simone and General of the Carmelites and to the same Saint James Apostle in the year of Our Lord 1594.
