  • [a] The chapel walls were painted with frescoes dedicated to scenes from the life of the Virgin, and the high altarpiece was a polyptych of the Virgin and Child flanked by saints, all half-length, now in the Uffizi.
  • [b] The tomb of count Ugo was originally set against the north wall of the high altar chapel, which oriented his effigy's feet toward the east. The wall tomb now stands were the medieval high altar stood, against the seventeenth-century eastern wall.
  • [c] says "nel mezzo di chiesa" so possibly closer to choir than to Cappella Maggiore
