Bonfantini

Though the descendants of messer Bonfantino di messer Cancelliere Adimari (d. 1297) have been assigned to the Bonfantini family with a coat of arms using the same tinctures in a different configuration, they do not seem to have renounced their Adimari ancestors, name, or heraldry. Members of the family appear in the Priorista Mariani and Online Tratte as Bonfantini, though here they are classified as Adimari. For ease of reference, they are linked to the Bonfantini here but should not be seen as kinsmen to the family who had a tomb at Santa Maria Novella with the name and arms of the Bonfantini.

Notes

  • [a] Note that Padgett is following errors found in various prioriste and the Online Tratte mistaking the descendants of messer Buonfantino degli Adimari as a member of the Bonfantini family.
  • [b] As the S. Croce sepoltuario provides no arms related to the tomb, it is difficult to know whether it belonged to the Buonfantini clan who used arms party per saltire Or and azure.
  • [c] According to notations in the Priorista Mariani (ASFi, Manoscritti, 248, fol. 228) and a more extensive description in the Passerini archive (BNCF, Passerini, 193/3, ins. 2: Adimari), the priors assigned to the Bonfantini in fact belonged to the Adimari clan, though where exactly they fit into that large lineage remains unclear.
