Unlike the majority of his family, Antonio Altoviti lived in Corso dei Tintori in the Leon Nero district, most likely in the house that his son, the wool merchant Bardo, declared in his 1427 catasto declaration. Santa Croce burial records suggest that Antonio was a dyer (tintore), and his proximity to the church was a likely motivation to install a tomb in its cemetery, rather than closer to Altoviti kin in their ancestral quarter of Santa Maria Novella.
