Notes

  • [a] Giovanni's father gave his son's age as 31 in his 1427 catasto, rendering a birth year of 1396. His birth record in the Online Tratte give the date January 2nd, 1399.
  • [b] Giovanni di Guglielmo Altoviti was dead when drawn for the Twelve on September 12th, 1438
  • [c] Giovanni di Guglielmo di Bardo Altoviti was selected to represent the Silk Guild at the Mercanzia on March 21st, 1435.
  • [d] Giovanni's father had died by October 28th, 1431, at which time he would have received rights to his grandfather Bardo's tomb. A register of family flags (bandiere) kept at Santa Croce dated June 6th, 1440 records that Giovanni's flag and shield with the family coat of arms were stored in the right transept of the church.
  • [e] Given Giovanni's appearance in Santa Croce's 1440 list of flags, it seems most probable that he was buried in his grandfather's tomb. Gravedigger records would confirm his date of death and place of burial.
  • [f] Giovanni was registered in his father's house in this parish in his 1427 tax declaration. His birth record was from this district, as were his political offices.
