[a] The 1439 sepoltuario only gives the tomb owner's name as Bardo Altoviti and indicated it had not been finished with a marble slab but was "ammatonata." The owner was likely Bardo di Guglielmo di Vinta Altoviti, active in the second half of the fourteenth century, who secured the burial site at the foot of the fourth pier in the right aisle that was refurbished in the early seventeenth century with the stone that is there today.
[b] Gravedigger records would confirm both Bardo's date of death and whether he was buried in grave he had secured but not decorated in the church of Santa Croce.
[c] Tomb registers record Bernardo's son Paolo as owner of his father Bardo's tomb, which means that he had also inherited these rights, which he held until his own death in 1400.
[d] The tomb was refurbished by Guglielmo's great-great grandson Guglielmo di Francesco Altoviti in 1617.
[e] Tomb registers record Bernardo's son Paolo as owner of his father Bardo's tomb, which means that he had also inherited this rights, unless he predeceased his father. We know that Bernardo died in 1400, but we can only securely place his father's death between 1399 and October 27th, 1405. Gravedigger records would confirm Bardo's and Bernardo's dates of death and places of burial.
[f] Paolo's father Bernardo died in 1400 when he was an infant. While he legally inherited the tomb at that time, he only gained full access to his inheritance when he reached maturity around 1417.
[g] The Santa Croce sepoltuario of 1439 names Paolo di Bernardo as the tomb's then current owner.
[h] Given that his father's tomb passed to his son, it seems likely that Guglielmo would have been buried here. Gravedigger records, however, would confirm both his date of death and burial location.
[i] Giovanni's father had died by October 28th, 1431, at which time he would have received rights to his grandfather Bardo's tomb. A register of family flags (bandiere) kept at Santa Croce dated June 6th, 1440 records that Giovanni's flag and shield with the family coat of arms were stored in the right transept of the church.
[j] Ridolfo's father had died by October 28th, 1431, at which time he would have received rights to his grandfather Bardo's tomb. Ridolfo was dead by April 28th, 1464.
[k] Bardo received rights to his grandfather's tomb from his father, who was dead by October 28th, 1431. Ownership rights ultimately passed to his great-grandson Guglielmo who refurbished the memorial in 1619.
[l] Given Giovanni's appearance in Santa Croce's 1440 list of flags, it seems most probable that he was buried in his grandfather's tomb. Gravedigger records would confirm his date of death and place of burial.
[m] Piero's great grandfather's tomb passed through him to the descendant who restored it in 1619.
[n] Given that Paolo was heir to the tomb established by his grandfather, it is likely that he was buried there. Gravedigger records would confirm his church of burial.
[o] Gravedigger records would confirm whether Ridolfo di Guglielmo Altoviti chose his grandfather's tomb in Santa Croce as his burial place.
[p] The tomb was renovated by his grandson in 1619.
[q] Gravedigger records would confirm the date of death and whether Piero was buried in his great-grandfather's tomb.
[r] Having outlived his son Pierozzo, Ridolfo must have left rights to his tomb to his grandson and namesake Ridolfo, whose son would refurbish the monument in 1619.
[s] Francesco's son was one of the patrons to refurbish the Altoviti ancestral tomb in 1619. His father Guglielmo, through whom we would have received rights to the tomb, died in 1511
[t] Outlived by his father Ridolfo, Pierozzo was likely buried in the Santa Croce tomb considering it was refurbished by his grandson and namesake in 1619. Gravedigger records would confirm date of death and place of burial.
[u] The tomb of Bardo di Guglielmo di Vinta Altoviti passed through Ridolfo to his son Pierozzo, who with his cousin Guglielmo di Francesco, refurbished it with a new slab in 1619.
[v] Cheli reports the burial of the young Filippo, which took place the day after his death date given by Passerini.
[w] Given that his son restored the family tomb in Santa Croce in 1619, it is likely that Ridolfo had chosen burial there.
