Notes

  • [a] Described as "quadro" by Stefano Rosselli, the manhole cover carried the inscription dedicated to Elisabetta Masini and the coat of arms of the hospital of Santa Maria Nuova.
  • [b] It is unclear how much renovation, if any, was undertaken on the original Masini family slab that carried the family's coat of arms.
  • [c] Elisabetta left the hospital as her universal heir. The Carmine's Libro dei Padronati reports that their arms adorned the tomb set up after her death in November 1531. Stefano Rosselli only notes the Masini family arms, which had been on the tomb since its initial creation in the fifteenth century.
