  • [a] By the time of Stefano Rosselli's sepoltuario, a tomb and cover just inside the main door of the church and in line with the altar was so worn away that he could not see either arms or inscription. It may also have been worn down by the time of the 1580 sepoltuario on which he relied for much of his description of S. Barnaba.
  • [b] Rosselli is not specific as to whether Ambrogio's tomb was touching or further east of the tomb just inside the church door, he describes it simple as "sopra" or above it, but it seems clear that both tombs were along the longitudinal axis of the church.
