Notes

  • [a] According to an eighteenth-century inscription in the church, the Zati family had patronage rights over the chapel to the left of the high altar, which they dedicated to the Virgin Mary and Saint Julian. It was conceded to the nuns to rededicate it to the miraculous Blood of Christ, and it was decorated with a new tabernacle by Mino da Fiesole and Cosimo Rosselli. Given that this decoration occurred in the early 1480s, it is likely that the plaque is mistaken in its claim that the family held ius patronatus until 1492. In recognition of the transfer, the Zati family coat of arms was installed, or left, over the arch of the chapel until its removal in the early eighteenth century.
  • [b] The Zati chapel in Sant'Ambrogio was dedicated to the Virgin Mary and St. Julian, raising the possibility that it was founded by Giuliano Zati in honor of his name saint. The chapel was conceded to the nuns by 1492.
