[a] Bishop Jacopo il Bavaro decided to relocate the episcopal seat from the Badia di Fiesole inside the city walls, dedicating the new church to San Romolo, who had spread the Gospel to Fiesole.
[b] The current bell tower was built in 1213, but was rebuilt in the early 1700s with battlements added to the top in 1739.
[c] An inscription on the fifth column separating the nave from the right aisle carries the date 1260, attesting to the enlarging of the cathedral in the thirteenth century.
[d] Bishop Andrea Corsini undertook additional renovations in the fourteenth centuries.
[e] A radical restoration of the cathedral in the late nineteenth century included a new facade installed by the Genio Civile of Florence.
