Salviati, Lotto (messer) di Mag. Salvi di S. Guglielmo di Forese di Gottifredo (iudex)

Description

Though his father, the physician maestro Salvi, had installed a wall tomb for himself and his sons on the facade of the Badia Fiorentina, seat of their parish, Lotto may be the "Messer Lotto" listed with neither patronym nor surname in the oldest surviving tomb register kept by the Franciscan church of Santa Croce for a tomb installed in the friary's cemetery on the north side of the church. In the fifteenth century, the Salviati built a chapel in the north transept of the church, whose construction led to the destruction of a portion of this cemetery.

Notes

  • [a] A document dated January 17th, 1305 (Archivio Salviati, 21, Centro Archivistico della Scuola Normale Superiore di Pisa), records a six-year rental agreement between M. Lotto and his father maestro Salvi. Giuseppe Mastursi reports that M. Lotto was dead before July 15th, 1320.
  • [b] Giuseppe Mastursi has identified sixteen documents related to Messer Lotto's judicial role in this time span.
  • [c] Though not in the online Tratte, where guild elections begin only in 1394, Giuseppe Mastursi reports that Messer Lotto served as guild consul in 1304.
