2536 D. Bartholomeo del Caccia Camaldulensium familię Abbati [stolam] integritatis inter homines illeso candore servatam, pretiosis Margaritis Abstinentię, sui despicientię, contemplationis, et adversus Deum pietatis, hic inter Angelos nuptialem retulit, qua indutus, ut sperare iuvat, ad Agni cęnam intravit MDCXXXV.
D. Simeon Guidottus Abbas optimo sodali, vere monaco MDCXXXVIII pon. cur.
For Lord Bartolomeo del Caccia, Abbot of the Camaldolese family, he took the stole of integrity preserved with its involate purity among men, with the precious pearls of abstinence, of indifference to himself, of contemplation, and of a sense of duty towards God; here among the Angels he brought back the nuptial robe; clothed in it, as one may hope, he has entered the supper of the Lamb

Lord Simone Guidotti Abbot took care in 1638 that [this tomb] be placed for his greatest companion, a true monk

Notes

  • [] In the autograph original, Stefano Rosselli noted in the margin that his ellipsis should be filled with "stolam."
  • [a] Rosselli describes the tomb as a square cover (chiusino quadro)
  • [b] Don Bartolomeo was likely buried in one of the monks' tombs in 1635, after which his friend don Simone installed a memorial marker with a laudatory inscription. Whether his remains were translated to rest under the new marker is impossible to say.
  • [c] Abbot del Caccia's friend and colleague Simone Guidotti installed a tomb marker praising the monk's adherence to his monastic vows in 1638. It does not seem to survive.
