Notes

  • [a] The Crucifixion, painted on canvas by Santi di Tito, carries the date 1588.
  • [b] Giorgio Vasari credited himself with the design of the new altars in Santa Croce, part of the radical renovation of the church begun in 1566, that was overseen by Francesco da Sangallo detta Margotta, director building works until his death in 1576. Vasari also did not live to see the construction of the Alamanneschi altar, which was begun over a decade after his death in 1574 according to his designs.
