A sepoltuario written by a single hand in 1298 with later amendments (ASFi, Manoscritti, 619, fol. 2-5v) records 201 tombs in the "cemetery," described as under the chapels of the church (sepulcra cimiterii quae sunt sub capellis ecclesiae). This date coincides with the foundation of the present church in May 1295, and these tombs thus seem to have been installed ca. 1295-1298, with changes in ownership recorded up through 1439. A sepoltuario drawn up in 1596 listed these tombs under the heading "sepolture, che sono sotto le volte," counting only 200. (ASFi, Manoscritti, 618, fol. 5-14v). A nineteenth-century copy of the 1439 sepoltuario kept in the Archivio di Santa Croce (AOSC, 47, p. 5) describes the crypt tombs as: "beneath the vaults—namely those under the High Altar, under its steps, and under the ten chapels along the row of the High Altar. One enters beneath the vaults from the cemetery on the north side, opposite the corner at the Ramerino, that is, opposite via della Stufa [Borgo Allegri]. And we will begin at the corner of the passage beneath the vaults on the south side, which lies next to the door by which one enters beneath the vaults, on the side toward the dormitory."

Notes
[b] The marker is installed on the crypt's central pier.
[v] Niccolaio Frescobaldi was a distant relative of Bilia, who did not have any children with her husband Schiatta di M. Lapo Toso Frescobaldi, Niccolaio's second cousin three times removed through his great grandfather Neri di M. Berto Frescobaldi, Schiatta's second cousin.
[w] Notations of Niccolaio's inheritance are present in later sepoltuari, but not in the original 1439 version.
[x] The Santa Croce crypt was transformed into a memorial to fallen Italian soldiers beginning in 1934.
[y] The 1439 sepoltuario makes no mention of Raugi ownership, but the tomb's transfer to Sandro Raugi was noted in a book dated 1441 as recorded by the 1596 and 1657 sepoltuari.
[z] The sepoltuari make clear that Pesce di Risalito was not part of the Risaliti clan in the parish of San Simone.
[aa] A tree kept among the Passerini files notes that M. Giovanni was buried in Santa Croce on March 15th, 1324, but it is not clear whether this is according to the old style Florentine or modern calendar.
[ag] The tomb's marker is still extant and is now installed on the exterior wall of the Museo Stibbert.
[ah] The tomb is recorded as belonging to Tessa Ferrantini, wife of messer Tommaso Orciolini, which suggests his name may have been on the monument, though only the Ferrantini arms are recorded by Stefano Rosselli.
[ai] The Priorista Mariani noted that the coat of arms on this tomb had eleven small crosses around the pair of dolphins rather than only five.
[aj] presumably Cacciafuori died out and Signora Tempi inherited it, not mentioned in 1439 sepoltuario\n\nupper limit to this date is unknown
